Filming in Old Cairo, Islamic Cairo and Khan el-Khalili
Historic Cairo is one of the richest period locations in the world: medieval streets, mosques, markets and courtyards, with Coptic churches and belle-epoque downtown nearby. It is also busy and full of life, which is exactly why it needs an experienced team.
Where we shoot
Khan el-Khalili bazaar and the lanes around it, Al-Muizz Street with its mosques and historic houses, Bab Zuweila and the old city gates, the Citadel of Saladin, Coptic Cairo with its churches and narrow alleys, and downtown with its early twentieth century buildings, cafes and rooftops.
Permits and crowds
Besides the Egypt Film Commission permit, historic mosques and monuments need approvals from the antiquities and religious authorities. Busy streets need police coordination and a strong crowd team. We schedule the most crowded places for early mornings and Fridays, and dress backgrounds with our own extras when the scene needs control.
Old Cairo as another city
With the right art department, historic Cairo has doubled for other Middle Eastern and North African cities and for different eras.

Can you film inside mosques in Cairo?+
Some historic mosques allow filming with approvals and respect for prayer times. We check each one and plan around prayers.
Is Khan el-Khalili too busy to film?+
It is busy, which is part of its character. Early mornings are calmer, and we manage crowds with police coordination and our own team.
