Drone filming in Egypt
Aerial filming in Egypt is possible, but it needs its own approvals and the longest lead time of any permit. We plan it with you from the first call so the shot is still there when the shoot starts.
The rules in short
Drones are tightly controlled in Egypt. Bringing a drone into the country, and flying it, both need prior approval; the Ministry of Defence and the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority oversee aerial activity. A drone that arrives without approval is held at the airport.
For a production, the aerial request goes in with your main filming permit through the Egypt Film Commission, with the drone model, operator, locations, dates and flight plan.
Lead time
Aerial approvals take longer than ground permits, and sensitive areas such as heritage sites, military zones and airports have extra limits. Tell us about every aerial shot in the first brief, with the exact location, so we can say early what is realistic.
Options when a drone is not the answer
If a location or a timeline rules out a drone, we look at the alternatives with your DOP: cranes and towers, vehicle rigs, high vantage points, or helicopter work where it can be approved. The goal is the same image, legally and on schedule.
